Byzantine also known as bird cage, is the natural progression from box. In this chain you will start to weave links and rotate a symmetrical pattern.  Byzantine is probably the most popular chainmaille jewelry chain because of its ornate quality.  It looks good on men in thick links and with smaller links looks very feminine on women.
You will notice Byzantine is closely related to box. Where the box basic unit is two pairs, Byzantine basic unit is 3 pairs and each basic unit is repeatedly rotated ninety degrees about the center line of the chain.
